Use case 04

Environmental monitoring and inventories

Environmental monitoring, wildlife and plant inventories, station readings: Enviro plans each campaign on the site map, sends it to the field team's mobile app and links every observation to its station, its plot and the requirement it serves.

Today

A field campaign produces data sheets, photos, coordinates and notes. The maps, meanwhile, live elsewhere: in GIS software, at a consultant's office, in a version printed last year. In between, someone re-enters, renames and relocates. And at the next campaign, someone has to find exactly where each plot was.

Readings re-entered at the office

Paper sheets, spreadsheets and photos on personal phones reach the office at the end of the week. Every re-entry is a chance to lose a value or a station.

Maps cut off from monitoring

The up-to-date layers sit in a GIS file few people open. Task tracking, for its part, does not know where the station it refers to is.

Inventories that start from scratch

From one year to the next, protocols, plots and teams change. Comparing two campaigns means reconstructing the previous one.

Map management

Every station, every plot, in the right place

Site layers are imported once: sampling stations, inventory plots, sensitive habitats, lease boundaries. Each map feature is linked to its requirements, its tasks and its history. You plan a campaign by selecting points on the map, and the team sees exactly where to go.

The mobile app

In the field, even without a network

The team opens the day's tasks on the map, goes to the point and fills in the protocol form. Geotagged photos, coordinates, species observed and site conditions are entered once, offline if needed, then synced when the network returns.

  • Forms built around your inventory and sampling protocols.
  • Navigation to the station or plot, GPS position recorded with every reading.
  • No re-entry: the data reaches the office already linked to its requirement.

Inventories

From one campaign to the next, the inventory can be compared

Because every reading is tied to the same point on the map, campaigns stack up instead of replacing one another. Trends by plot or station emerge on their own, gaps against targets are flagged, and the monitoring report starts from data that is already located and verified.

Five steps · a single entry

  1. 01

    Plan

Campaign points are selected on the site map.

  2. 02

    Assign

Tasks go out to each team's mobile app.

  3. 03

    Record

Protocol form, photos and GPS position, even offline.

  4. 04

    Compare

Results are overlaid on previous campaigns, at the same point.

  5. 05

    Report

The monitoring report starts from located data linked to the requirement.
