A Canadian mining company was rolling out PAELO, its new e-learning management platform. The rollout had to move at an accelerated pace, in parallel with several other digital transformation initiatives. Lichens supported the training team throughout the implementation, with resources present directly on the mine site. The mandate also covered strategic advisory workshops on digital transformation.
Securing a digital project is as much a matter of workload as of technology choices.

The challenge: several initiatives to run, at an accelerated pace
The training department was running several transformation initiatives at once, including the platform implementation. The mine wanted to secure the success of these digital projects by reducing the risks tied to technology choices, change management and support for the teams affected.
Reinforcement was also needed to absorb the workload tied to testing, configuration and implementation of the platform. Finally, the strategic needs had yet to be defined, so that the most promising digital initiatives could be targeted.
The setup: resources on site, not remote
Three resources were assigned to the mandate, some of them present directly on the mine site. The support took several forms, adjusted to the needs identified over the course of the mandate.
- Data preparation and project management: a resource dedicated to the training department’s initiatives.
- PAELO implementation: support for the rollout and for the creation of training content.
- Strategic advisory: facilitating workshops to pin down the departments’ digital transformation needs.
- Prioritization: identifying the digital initiatives with the strongest impact.
- Continuous improvement: contributing to other files, according to the priorities of the moment.
The impacts
- Faster rollout: the pace of platform deployment increases.
- Initiatives that move forward: a dedicated resource on site advances the training department’s projects.
- Clearer digital priorities: the initiatives with the strongest impact are identified for the three departments.
- A lighter administrative load: the training department is relieved of part of its administrative work.
- Weekly reporting: progress on the mandate is reported every week.
